handbag organization tips

Does the inside of your handbag look like this?

Let’s face it, women carry handbags for utility purposes. We face a war with our insecurities and need all our safety blankets with us as well as supplies to tackle mom needs.

In case anyone is curious, a list of all the items you see in the photo is listed at the bottom of this post.

We all have these tote bags (mine is the Michael Kors Jetset Tote in Red, similar here) which are great, but organization is an issue. I start off with all the best intentions of keeping my bag light, but the bigger the bag, the more stuff I tend to collect and carry.

So, by the end of the week, my bag looks like the photo above!

It’s not a big deal for this bag since the opening is wide enough that I can see almost everything and easily grab it. But the friction and bumping damages and wears the items I’m carrying. The jostling has broken a number of things in my bag including a compact and, even worse, a key inside my bag scratch the screen on my phone once. Cleaning up the mess is always a drag, and it was heartbreaking to see the scratch on my otherwise brand new phone.

Single Bag Organizer?

Surely! There are handbag organizers readily available. I bought this little organizer from Amazon for a lot less than what it costs now. It nicely tucks all my items into an “inside” bag that goes in my tote.

I’ve used this organizer for a Louis Vuitton Speedy, and I found it hard to see what I had and access what I wanted because the Speedy has a small opening.

I much prefer to use this organizer for larger bags so I can see what I’m looking for. The benefit of using an organizer like this is that if you change bags often, all you have to do is just take the organizer from bag to bag – no mess, no fuss.

I’ve also seen these..

Little “cosmetic” bags

For smaller bags like the Louis Vuitton Speedy, I prefer using cute little “cosmetic bags.” I have plenty of small, cosmetic bags from just collecting them and also from a monthly cosmetic subscription. I don’t think there is anyone in need of small, medium, or large cosmetic bags in her closet.

These things just seem to collect and add up. I love using them to separate and compartmentalize my handbag items. I have a small bag for my earbuds and a medium-sized bag to hold all the makeup, feminine products, etc. I also have a separate bag/holder for keys so that they don’t damage the items inside my bag or the inside surface of the bag.

When using a huge bag like this one, I like to have a small “to-go” bag for my wallet, phone, and keys – just the essentials for quick runs to the pharmacy or grocery store.
