Modern Leather Goods was founded in 1944 by Ben Rosen in New York City. The company handled repair work for the finest department stores of the time; Macy’s, Gimbels and Bloomingdales were but a few.
In 1945, Mr. Rosen passed the business on to Paul Pecorella and Burt Sarachini – his two lead repair men. Paul and Burt led Modern forward for the next four decades.
In 1983, Burt retired and sold his share of the business to Paul’s son, Tony, who had started working at Modern in 1977.
Father and son went forward until 1994 when Paul called it quits and sold his half of Modern to Tony’s brother-in-law Paul Regensburg, keeping Modern family owned and operated for 70 years and counting.
